Looking to DIY your own healthy taco seasoning? We were too. Since we’ve never been a fan of pre-packaged taco seasoning mixes. They often contain nasty ingredients like MSG, anti-caking agents, sugar, or waaaay too much sodium. So we had to DIY our own.
Living in Mexico we’ve really grown to appreciate the explosion of flavors from using fresh spices. So we love making our own “Mexi-spice” seasoning. Originally we tried a few different recipes for taco seasoning. Then we mixed-and-matched different ingredients until we came up with a seasoning mix we LOVE.
Mexi-Spice Taco Seasoning
- 1 TBSP chipotle powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon, ground
- 1 tsp cumin, ground
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
- Combimne all ingrediets and grind in a spice grinder (or a coffee grinder used exclusievely for gringing skpices)
- Store in an air-tight spice jar for up to a year
