I’m proud to announce my husband, “Capitán Kirk” Hackler, has been certified as a Primordial Sound Meditation Teacher by Deepak Chopra and Roger Gabriel at the Chopra Center. After practicing meditation for over 45 years, Kirk decided to share his passion with others and become a certified meditation teacher.
Health Benefits of Meditation
As a Beatle’s fan, Kirk’s interest was piqued when the Beatles met Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and learned Transcendental Meditation (TM). After Maharishi’s success in the West, a flood of Gurus and Swamis from India came to the US offering many paths to Nirvana.
Kirk researched different types of meditation. And he found studies from top med schools and universities which verified TM’s claims of stress reduction and health benefits. So Kirk started meditating in the early 1970s, and later trained as a TM-Sidhi (yogic flyer) with Maharishi, who was also Deepak Chopra’s Guru. Kirk practiced TM for over 40-years before studying Primordial Sound Meditation at the Chopra Center in San Diego, CA.
Why Primordial Sound Meditation?
Like many forms of meditation, Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM) is a mantra-based style of meditation rooted in the ancient Vedic traditions of India. But these ancient Vedic teachings can be difficult for Westerners to understand. So Doctors Deepak Chopra and David Simon took these ancient teachings and made them more available to the Western mind.
Kirk has practiced PSM for the past five years. And he’s grateful that the Chopra Center offers opportunities for personal growth and advanced Vedic knowledge. He also appreciates the Chopra Center’s commitment to scientific research on the health benefits of meditation in conjunction with major universities.
