Is your glass half-empty or half-full? Can you even choose if it’s empty or full? It turns out that 50% of your happiness is genetic. So that leaves 50% of your happiness that you have total control over! Here are some quick-and-easy ways to boost your happiness.
3 Ways to Increase Your Happiness
- Practice Gratitude ~ a daily gratitude practice, especially if it’s written down, can help raise your happiness quotient. Try writing down three things you are grateful for every night before you go to bed.
- Practice Random Acts of Kindness ~ doing something for others, especially when it’s not expected, can help to make you and the recipient happier. Help an elderly person with their groceries or to cross the street; hold open the door for someone; or pay it forward and buy a coffee for the next person in line.
- Remember Happy Moments ~ journaling about, or recalling some of the happiest moments in your life can get the oxytocin flowing again, and make you happy all over again.
Some of the ways I increase my happiness are: going outdoors in the nice weather and taking in some fresh air; watching a funny movie; and practicing my hula-hooping. Hula-hooping is one thing that ALWAYS puts a smile on my face. It takes me back to my childhood, and is a fun way to get some good exercise. On road-trips, I even take my hoop along and take hooping breaks at rest areas. Pay your happiness forward, it tends to put a smile on others faces when they see someone hula-hooping!
