3 Ways to Increase Your Happiness

Is your glass half-empty or half-full? Can you even choose if it’s empty or full? It turns out that 50% of your happiness is genetic. So that leaves 50% of your happiness that you have total control over! Here are some quick-and-easy ways to boost your happiness.

3 Ways to Increase Your Happiness

  1. Practice Gratitude ~ a daily gratitude practice, especially if it’s written down, can help raise your happiness quotient. Try writing down three things you are grateful for every night before you go to bed.
  2. Practice Random Acts of Kindness ~ doing something for others, especially when it’s not expected, can help to make you and the recipient happier. Help an elderly person with their groceries or to cross the street; hold open the door for someone; or pay it forward and buy a coffee for the next person in line.
  3. Remember Happy Moments ~ journaling about, or recalling some of the happiest moments in your life can get the oxytocin flowing again, and make you happy all over again.

Some of the ways I increase my happiness are: going outdoors in the nice weather and taking in some fresh air; watching a funny movie; and practicing my hula-hooping. Hula-hooping is one thing that ALWAYS puts a smile on my face. It takes me back to my childhood, and is a fun way to get some good exercise. On road-trips, I even take my hoop along and take hooping breaks at rest areas. Pay your happiness forward, it tends to put a smile on others faces when they see someone hula-hooping!
