These tips highlight a variety of topics from the past year for those of you who are either new to my blog, or have been with me all along, but may have missed reading a few posts here and there.

  1. HOW TO FIND SAFE, ORGANIC SUNSCREENS: Did you know that the skin is the largest organ in your body? Your skin absorbs up to 60% of anything it comes into contact with, and for kids it’s an even higher percentage. Most sunscreens on the market today are chock-full of toxic chemicals that I can’t even pronounce, so I really don’t want to put those on my skin. Luckily there are some safer alternatives on the market these days. Read more to find healthy alternative sunscreens

    Sugar Cookies

  3. NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC: SUGAR LOVE: As some of you know, I’m not a big fan of sugar. The more I learn about sugar from the numerous studies that are being done today, the more I realize how truly addictive and toxic it is for the body. The August 2013 cover story of National Geographic: Sugar Love (A not so sweet story) is an EXCELLENT article about SUGAR: it’s history, addiction, and new scientific research on just how harmful it is for you. 5. REFRESHINGLY COOL FRUIT POPSICLES: Who doesn’t love a fruit popsicle on a hot summer day? But most of them are so loaded with sugar, artificial colorings and artificial flavorings they don’t even taste like “fruit”. By using the whole fruit, and not just fruit juice, you will get all that good nutritional value, fruit fiber and pulp which helps aid digestion and will also help prevent a spike in your blood sugar too. Mind Over Medicine, Dr. Lissa Rankin

  7. MIND OVER MEDICINE, BY DR. LISSA RANKIN: I’ve been following Dr. Lissa Rankin’s incredible work for over a year now, and have just finished reading her new book Mind Over Medicine. 9. HOW TO KEEP YOUR BODY PH ON THE ALKALINE SIDE OF LIFE: Did you know if your body is too acidic it can lead to inflammation and illness? A more alkaline body will help to create wellness. Interestingly, it’s how your body processes foods which determine the PH, so something that may seem acidic like a lemon, is actually quite alkaline once digested…and is very beneficial to the body, helping to keep your body PH on the alkaline side. This great info graphic makes it easy to see which foods to eat more or less of. Read more to learn which foods are more alkaline and healthier for you

    Personal time in hammock

  11. PERSONAL TIME CAN REVITALIZE YOUR ENERGY: It seems that in this fast-paced, high-tech world we live in, many of the technologies and devices that are supposed to help us “save time”, are actually eating up more of our time. Who hasn’t been sucked down the rabbit hole of Facebook, Pinterest, or YouTube a time or two? Research has shown that we need downtime to help us decompress, and revitalize our energy: time away from computers and techno-gadgets; time out in nature; time to paint, draw, write, create; time to ourselves and do what ever we want, without responsibilities. Baja Shrimp Tacos

  13. BAJA SHRIMP TACOS: One of the best things about hanging out in Baja is the abundance of delicious fresh fish and shrimp tacos. They are made with fresh corn tortillas, local ingredients like tomatoes, avocados, cabbage, cilantro, limes, and fresh-caught fish or shrimp. When making your own, be sure to look for fresh-caught or frozen shrimp from Mexico, the Gulf Coast, or Florida Keys rather than frozen farmed shrimp from Southeast Asia. Not only is farmed shrimp harder on the planet, many polluted rivers run right through shrimp farms. Read more to try this great Baja Shrimp taco recipe

  15. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK: If you are new to meditation, or would like to get back into the habit of daily meditation, the Oprah & Deepak Chopra’s daily meditations are a great place to start. They are short, 10-15 minute guided mediations. We try to start each day by doing one of their meditations, which helps set the tone for the day and gives you a “theme” to think about as you go about your day. I thought this message, based in Buddhism, was worth sharing and pondering. Before you speak, ask yourself these four questions: Read more to learn the four questions and about meditation
